What is LARC?

LARC also known as The Arc of Litchfield County, Inc. is a nonprofit organization that supports individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities. Founded in 1964, we provide programs and services that help people live, work, and thrive as active members of their communities. Our mission is rooted in inclusion, dignity, and respect for all.

Who do you serve?

We serve adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities throughout Litchfield County, Connecticut. Our services are person-centered, meaning each program is designed to support the unique goals, interests, and needs of every individual we work with.

What kind of services do you offer?

We offer a wide range of services to support all areas of life. This includes residential programs (both group homes and in-home supports), day programs focused on skill-building and community involvement, employment training and job placement, recreational and social activities, and advocacy. We meet people where they are—whether they need full-time care, job coaching, or opportunities to connect with others.

How do your residential programs work?

Our residential programs provide safe, supportive living environments for adults with developmental disabilities. Some individuals live in our staffed group homes, while others receive help at home through our in-home support services. Each setting encourages independence, personal growth, and community involvement, while offering the support needed for daily living.

Can LARC help someone find a job?

Yes! Our Vocational Program and Project SEARCH offer employment-focused services that help individuals prepare for, find, and keep meaningful jobs. We work with local businesses to match individuals with opportunities that fit their interests and abilities, while also providing job coaching and on-the-job support as needed.

How can someone get started with your services?

Getting started is as simple as reaching out. Families or individuals can contact our office to learn more about available programs, eligibility, and next steps. Many of our services are funded through the Connecticut Department of Developmental Services (DDS), so we’ll also help you navigate any required referrals or paperwork.

How is LARC funded?

LARC is primarily funded by the Connecticut Department of Developmental Services and the Department of Social Services, but we also rely on grants, donations, and community support to keep our programs strong and accessible. Contributions from individuals and organizations help us expand opportunities, maintain quality care, and invest in inclusive programs that enrich lives.
